A REAL Covered Call Example from February 2009The BHP share price on 25 February was $29.69*. An Exercise price of $31.00 at the end of March was recommended. For that you could have received $1.301 for each share that you owned. So if you had 1,000 shares you would receive $1,300 (less broking costs), 10,000 shares you would get $13,000 and so on. That is a return of 4.2% for the month!If the share price rises above $31 there is an almost certain chance you will be called upon to sell the shares for an additional profit of $1.31 (less brokerage). If the share price stays below $31 you keep them and write again. The strategy becomes unprofitable at a $28.39 share price.
